Wedding photography course

This wonderful course will take place over two days, and is designed to improve photographer's wedding photography skills, as well as to enrich their photograph portfolio.

Dates: 6th - 8th March 2020

Our models for this course are agency signed models from Bordeaux, Marseille or Paris.

Fee: €1,160 for 2 nights full board stay and 2 days shooting models.

To reserve your place you need to pay a deposit of €500 now and the balance 30 days before i.e. by 6th February 2020

There is a limit of 12 spaces on the course to ensure that each photographer has the space and the attention needed to develop.

Outline plan of the course

Please note that the course contents may alter slightly; a more detailed breakdown will be provided on booking.

Day 1 - studio photography

09.00 until 10.00: Introductions and tea/coffee

During the introduction Bruce will outline the plans for the next 2 days. You will also be able to discuss your objectives for the course.

10.00 until 11.00: Briefing the team

With every shoot there is a team of people involved; the stylist, who puts together the outfits and dresses the models, the hair and make up artist and the models. They all need a clear understanding of what the shoot is all about. This session is aimed at helping you to set up your workflow and how you communicate with your team.

11.00 until 12.00: Shooting the first studio set up

For every set up Bruce will demonstrate how he approaches the shot. During this first set up we will cover the studio lighting kit and how to use it effectively and how to create contrast (i.e. high key and low key lighting.) The texture of light and how modifiers change that texture will also be worked on. We will cover the set up your cameras settings i,e ISO, colour balance, ICC profile etc. Each student will shoot in rotation one to one with the model. Bruce will review your shooting so he can guide you through the course to help you to communicate, direct and be in control of your shoot. The goal for this first shoot is communication skills. After each shoot, you will upload your images, carry out a 3-step edit and choose the best images in preparation for the next shoot.

12.00: until 13.00: Shooting the second studio set up

After Bruce has done a demonstration shoot of this set up, each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model. He will be co-directing you and the model to build your directing skills. The goal for the second shoot is improving directing skills.

13.00: until 14.00: Lunch

14.00: until 15.00: Shooting the third studio set up

After a demonstration shoot of this set up, each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model. The goal for the second shoot is improving your shooting skills, and ask such Bruce will co-direct you and the model.

15.00: until 16.00: Shooting the fourth studio set up

After Bruce's demonstration shoot of this set up, each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model. You will be practicing your communication, directing and controlling your shoot skills. The objective for this shoot is achieving what you want in your image.

16.00: until 16.30: Editing your images for layout

Bruce will demonstrate how to create a dynamic layout with impact from your images. You can make or break your shoot with bad editing or image choice and how you put them together. You will have some home work to do tonight after the first evening!

16:30 until 17.00: Image review

The group will come together at the end of the day to review everybody's images.

Day 2 - location photography

08.30 until 09.00: Meeting up at the our location

09.00 until 10.00: Briefing for the days location shoot

During the briefing Bruce will outline the plans for the day, we will also do a location kit check and learn how it all works. Together, we will recce the location and pick an area to shoot our first shot of the day. Bruce will demonstrate a few principals about shooting on location and getting the first shot set up.

10.00 until 11.00: Shooting the first location set up

As with day 1 for every set up Bruce will demonstrate to you how he approaches the shot. During this first set up, we will cover the location lighting kit and how to use it effectively, how to use location flash, reflectors and diffusion screens. Again Bruce will explain the texture of light and how location photography lighting modifiers change the texture. Each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model. Bruce will review your shooting as you shoot so that he can guide you to achieving your objectives for the shot. An important thing is to build on during this first shot of the day it to set the benchmark for your approach to the rest of the shots for the day.

11.00 until 12.00: Shooting the second location set up

After a demonstration shoot, each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model. The aim of this shoot is developing a consistency of approach; directing the shot to keep the style initially set consistent throughout subsequent shots.

12.00: until 13.00: Shooting the third location set up

The session will again begin with a demonstration shoot, followed by each student shooting in rotation one-to-one with the model.

13.00: until 14.00: Lunch

14.00: until 15.00: Shooting the fourth location set up

After a demonstration shoot of this set up by Bruce, each student will shoot in rotation one-to-one with the model.

15.00: until 16.00: Shooting the fifth location set up

For this final shoot, Bruce will demonstrate his approach before students each shoot one-to-one in rotation. This is the chance for students to put all of their learning into practice.

16.00: until 16.30: Editing your images for layout

Bruce will demonstrate how to create a dynamic layout with impact from your images. You can make or break your shoot with bad editing or image choice and how you put them together.

16:30 until 17.00: Image review

The group will come back together to review the images that each student has shot over the course of the weekend, and to summarize the learning that has taken place.
