A place for growth and discovery

Chateau Fengari is a place to renew yourself: a sanctuary for body, mind and soul in a nineteenth century French chateau deep in the countryside of south-west France. Magical, hidden-away Chateau Fengari was described by a guest as “a slice of heaven”.

Unwind in understated, elegant bedrooms; savour bespoke dining on the terrace, complete with home-grown ingredients and local Bordeaux wines; enjoy your own private yoga studio, tennis courts, swimming pool and lake; lose yourself in the twenty-two acres of gardens and woods, with miles of walks into the countryside beyond.

A private sanctuary designed around your personal wellbeing

Your experience at Chateau Fengari is designed around optimising your personal wellbeing; the owners invite you to make the chateau your private sanctuary. Chateau Fengari is emphatically a home, not a hotel. You won’t find a reception desk or suited staff behind a bar. Instead, the belle époque hallways and oak-panelled salons echo to the laughter of the children, while well-loved family pets snooze in the midday sun.

Each of the ten distinctive and beautifully restored en-suite bedrooms represent understated French elegance. Simple, crisp white bed-linen provides a cool embrace from the heat of south-west France. For tutors and facilitators, Chateau Fengari provides a breathtaking venue for retreats, courses or workshops.

The chateau sits in its own 22 acre estate of gardens, fields and forest. Try a dip in the fresh-water swimming lake or relax in a deckchair beside the pool. Enjoy a game of tennis on the newly-built courts, or practise yoga in the dedicated studio. You can walk for miles into the shaded woods of birch and chestnut beyond the grounds.

A luxury wellbeing retreat only 40 minutes from Bordeaux

You will find the chateau in the quiet, authentically French village of Clérac. This is the real France: untouched by madding crowds of tourists. Rambling roses climb crumbling plaster walls and windows are decorated with wooden shutters in pastel shades. The little bakery in Clérac village is a few minutes’ walk from the chateau, where they make proper French bread and croissants every day. It’s impossible to make it back to the chateau without indulging in the French tradition of casse croute – a little morsel from the end of the baguette.

This is a place to relax, re-evaluate, awaken. Time runs a little slower here.

Thank you for your kind hearted and amazing hospitality, delicious meals , taking such good care to ensure that I had night time snacks and your overall care and love. You each make this trip one that I will remember dearly with stories to share with my little one when she arrives next April!
